Major Senior Caucus 2008 Policy Issues
The Senior Caucus Issues Committee met on June 30, 2008, and named the following issues to highlight during this election period. They were selected from the list of issues that were submitted by members over the last few weeks.
These issues were used in discussions with voters and the candidates. Handouts were distributied at the State Fair and elsewhere. Many found their way into candidate statements and stump speeches. A statement declaring our desire for peace so that our country can use the resources tied up by war to make the future livable to the generations that follow us was also be distributed.
Social Security
- Provide indexing of federal income taxes on Social Security benefits.
- Remove the cap for social security withholding
Medicare
- Require Medicare to negotiate drug price for Medicare Plan D.
- Require that Medicare provide a Plan D program as an alternative to private plan insurance offerings.
- Support a tax break for those who provide care to the ill, incapacitated or disabled.
