An interesting article in the May 30 NY Times describes a study that finds that “older adults who live in areas with high concentrations of primary care doctors are 10 percent less likely…to be hospitalized for illnesses that can be managed outside a hospital.”  They also have 5 percent lower death rates.  However, it found that medical costs are not lowered.
